Read the Passage

How little out tongue is, but it is one of the most dangerous part of the body. How many lives have the tongue destroyed. Gossips. It seems to have been the pastime of most people. But what do we get from it, nothing! The tongue is like a fire, if you start a spark, it could lead to destruction. With our tongue, we can destroy relationships, or damage other people’s lives. We can use our tongue to lie, to gossip, to judge other people, to slander, to curse, and to find faults. But we can also use our tongue to praise God, to praise other people, to encourage, to build relationship, to apologize, to thank, and to share God's word. We can use our tongue in different ways; we just have to be careful on how to use it.

You see, this part of James is like the Application of Faith in Action. You see, if you have faith, every part of you will follow. Your faith would show in your actions, as well as in whatever comes out of your mouth. How would people believe you have faith if all that comes from your mouth are foul language? The tongue is the weakness of most people. We can't sometimes control our tongue, especially when we're angry.

But how can we control it. Well, what I do is, every time I'm tempted to use my tongue in a wrong way, I pray to God to help me, and give me strength to control my tongue. We must be aware of every word we say, because once we are aware we can be able to at least put our tongue on leash before it could hurt someone. It is really hard to control a tongue, sometimes I would count to ten just so I could be able to control my tongue when I'm angry. We must remember that we should be the master of our tongues, and not the tongue to be the master of our being.
